Recently, the Google’s new algorithm for ranking websites, also called Farmer, has greatly impacts on search results by rewarding quality website content. It is Google’s attempt to value the websites, which offer informative and quality content.
So what is quality content? What makes content high quality? In this article, we would like to discuss on it with you.
What is Content?
The information provided on a website is its content. Content can mean any information offered by text, graphics, images, audio, video or software. It can be posts, articles, audio, videos, software, and links to interesting or entertaining resources, anything that a website visitor can use to his own pleasure.
The following is a quote from the original ‘Content is King’ article written by Bill Gates back in 1996.
“When it comes to an interactive network such as the Internet, the definition of “content” becomes very wide. For example, computer software is a form of content-an extremely important one, and the one that for Microsoft will remain by far the most important.”
Why “Content is King”?
Content is what drives the web. The phrase can be interpreted to mean that without original and desirable content, any website is likely to fail through lack of appealing content, regardless of other design factors. No original quality content, no visitors.
Generally speaking, the more useful and interesting content a website offers, the more people will want to visit it, and the more successful the website will be. If a website is constantly adding more and more appealing content on a regular basis, such as articles, tutorials, news and so on, the web visitors will come to the site more often.
What is Quality Content?
A blog post by Google’s Amit Singhal and Matt Cutts announcing the algorithm fix was titled “Finding more high-quality sites in search.”

“Google depends on the high-quality content created by wonderful websites around the world, and we do have a responsibility to encourage a healthy web ecosystem. Therefore, it is important for high-quality sites to be rewarded, and that’s exactly what this change does.”
What does High-quality Mean?
We think that a general rule is “usefulness & presentation.” Namely, offer valuable information presented in a easy to understand way.
If you are the content creator, you are trying to create valuable content. You need to consider what your content consumer think first? Consumers will decide whether it’s useful to them.
‘Quality Content’ means the following:
- Original and unique content
- Easy to understand
- Others are linking to or recommending the content
General Principles for Creating Quality Content
- Provide value to the potential consumers
- Well-written, grammatically correct and properly structured
- Relevant to the main topic of the website
The key to website success is quality content. Quality content is something that your visitors will enjoy reading, listening to, watching or using and will refer their family members, friends, colleagues, and others to it. By building quality content in your website, you get not only search engine traffic, but trust and reputation from your website visitors.
